Tim Aucoin, music teacher and bassist, is a native of New Orleans but now resides in Atlanta, GA. He particularly enjoys writing and performing music for strings in jazz-related styles. He has performed internationally with many diverse acts such as Grammy nominated jazz vocalist - Nnenna Freelon, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Mamas and the Papas, Allen Toussaint, Pete Fountain, and Luther Kent and Trickbag. He particularly enjoys writing and performing music for strings in jazz-related styles. He has performed internationally with many diverse acts such as Grammy nominated jazz vocalist - Nnenna Freelon, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Mamas and the Papas, Allen Toussaint, Pete Fountain, and Luther Kent and Trickbag. He continues to be active in the Atlanta jazz and commercial music community. Tim Aucoin has released a CD of original jazz music, "Swing First, Think Later." He is a past director of the Atlanta All-Star Grammy Jazz Band, which was a high school ensemble sponsored by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. He has served as the President of the Georgia Association of Jazz Educators, and he has been selected as a Teacher of the Year in Fulton County Schools. The Taylor Road M.S. Jazz Ensemble, under his direction, performed at the International Association of Jazz Educators Conference. While Performing Arts Department Chair and Orchestra Director, North Springs High School was named a National Grammy Signature School. In 2004, 2008, 2013, and 2017, the Northview High School Chamber Orchestra, under Mr. Aucoin's direction was a featured performer for the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference. The Northview ensemble has performed at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago in 2004, 2010, and in 2015. In 2006, the Northview Chamber Orchestra represented the State of Georgia in Austria and the Czech Republic for "Mozart: 2006" - a 250th Celebration. The Northview Chamber Orchestra has performed as the featured entertainment for the opening session of the National School Board Association Conference in Chicago. Mr. Aucoin also has several compositions for alternative style strings published by Alfred Music Publishers. He has been named Georgia ASTA Music Educator of the Year, GMEA Music Educator of the Year, and Atlanta Federation of Musicians Music Educator of the Year. He holds both B.M.E. and M.M. (Jazz Studies) degrees from Loyola University in New Orleans. In addition, he holds an Educational Specialist Degree with a concentration in music from Georgia State University. He has served as adjunct faculty at Loyola University of New Orleans, Georgia State University and the University of North Georgia. Mr. Aucoin has recently retired as the Director of Orchestras and Chairman of the Fine Arts Department at Northview High School in Fulton County, GA.
