I live with my wife Jane in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I was born in Dearborn, Michigan, in 1944 and grew up there. I completed a B.A. (English major, French and German minors) from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1967. I attended a British Universities Summer Course at the University of Edinburgh in 1966, where I met my first wife, Ingrid, from Sweden.
