He is an experienced composer/arranger with credits covering a wide range of style and genre. Throughout his 35+ years of teaching and administrative leadership, Don has mentored a significant number of Berklee graduates working successfully today in the film and television industry. His musical training focused initally on Jazz Arranging, Conducting and Composition. His songwriting was honed and featured by local Boston theater groups, and during his senior year was named Music Director and co-Composer of the Hasty Pudding Musicals production, THE BOY WHO CRIED BEOWOLF at Harvard. ~~~~~~~ Graduating Berklee with a degree in Composition, Don moved to Southern California where he studied Film Scoring with Earle Hagen and Orchestration with Albert Harris. His professional work as a composer/arranger and orchestrator includes extensive experience as a Music Editor on films, television and documentaries. ~~~~~~~ Don returned to Boston, joining the Berklee faculty specifically to revamp and expand the Film Scoring curriculum. He was appointed Department Chair of the newly created Film Scoring Major in 1979. The years that followed ushered in significant technological advances which directly impacted the evolution of the Film Scoring curriculum. ~~~~~~~ During that time he supervised the scoring of over 200 films as collaborative exchanges between Berklee students and college-level filmmakers, including Oscar nominated, KUDZU (1976), and Oscar winner, KARL HESS: TOWARD LIBERTY (1980). The following year, he scored URGE TO BUILD, also nominated for an Oscar in the Documentary Short category. His score for THE ROSE KENNEDY GREENWAY ~ A CITY IN BLOOM was nominated for a 2004 New England Region Emmy Award. In 2006, Don authored the Berklee online course, "Film Scoring 101" - available to students, worldwide. ~~~~~~~ Always drawn to sacred choral music, his most recent published work is entitled, MASS OF JOYFUL HOPE, for SATB + Organ, and a new vocal setting for VEXILLA REGIS. Retired from classroom teaching, Don remains active, composing vocal and instrumental works, many now available at JW Pepper Music.  show less
