Oakley Lyon graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a Music Education Degree. After graduating, he moved to North Carolina where he continues to teach privately, as well as in the public school systems. He is currently the woodwind teacher and band director for the El Systema inspired program KidzNotes and has recently accepted the position of middle school band director for Orange Charter School. After graduating, he moved to North Carolina where he continues to teach privately, as well as in the public school systems. He is currently the woodwind teacher and band director for the El Systema inspired program KidzNotes and has recently accepted the position of middle school band director for Orange Charter School. Oakley has been teaching private lessons since 2009. His students have earned high ratings in solo competitions, as well as having high chair placements in their school ensembles. In addition to being a music teacher, he is also an aspiring music composer. The premier of his first piece, Journey to the Firebird, was performed by the Durham Symphony Orchestra along side the KidzNotes-Beethoven ensemble. He is currently in the writing process for a commissioned piece for the Durham Symphony Orchestra to be performed April 19th, 2015.
