This volume contains five engaging four-hand "Concert Duets", each with a different musical character to expand the players' interpretive experience and please audiences. In addition, every piece focuses on a specific technique or skill that the intermediate pianist needs to master. I composed these pieces to address some of the problems common to intermediate-level piano players. There are special advantages to playing duets at this stage of advancement, beyond encouraging technical and musical progress. Working on duets with another player will inject fresh enthusiasm into music study at a time when some intermediate students may experience a "plateau" in progress. We are, undeniably, social creatures, and making music together has a special joy. However, unlike choral singers and band or orchestral players, the pianist is often left out of the ensemble experience until relatively advanced. Intermediate pianists will truly benefit from the energizing effects of studying a piece of music with one another.   "Traditional quilting, like chamber music, is a cooperative, communal
  activity  and the clean crisp lines
  delineating the sewn patterns bring woodwind sonorities to my mind. This
  suite celebrates the remarkable needlecraft of our American foremothers. They
  took scraps, rags and remnants of otherwise worn out garments and
  household fabrics to stitch together useful (often life saving)
  blankets that were also beautiful works of art. These early quilters
  favored certain shapes and designs that I have used for my musical
  inspiration. In these five pieces I have tried to honor the physical
  shapes of the patterns as well as emotions evoked by their use."

From a Pandemic Garden is a collection of songs I wrote while "sheltered in place" during the COVID pandemic. My world was my house and walled garden; each spot a potential for inspiration, sparking ideas for songs to while away the months of waiting. California Rose is a playful portrait of one of my favorite flowers. A group of pine trees created a Wooded Dell, a song exploring the timelessness of romance. An Asian lantern inspired Garden Teahouse, a story told through Haiku. February 2021 links the hope of the early California springtime with the poignant optimism inspired by the availability of the first COVID vaccines.

  competition between two quartets of clarinets; II. Dance has a lyrical 7/8
