Night of Mourning

Night of Mourning is an emotional solo written for 4-mallet 4-5 octave marimba and optional voice. The player has the option to play the piece as a duet with a singer, or sing the vocal line him/herself. After a short rubato introduction, the piece hits a delicate stride in a 6/8-7/8 meter. The center section introduces the voice lyrically with rich chords in the marimba part for accompaniment. It ends with the same 6/8 feel from the first section of the piece. Your audience will be in for a unique experience!
