Nightfall

Nightfall is a piece scored for euphonium quartet written in June of 2018. It starts off in 7/8 time with staggered entrances of ostinato rhythms that compoundly equal every beat of each measure. The main theme is stair-stepped in a similar way, where instead of adding rhythm, a solo melody is then joined by a duet melody and harmony and then joined by a third voice playing harmony as well. Near the middle of the piece, the melody is played above the accompaniment which changes between 5/8 time and 7/8 time. The piece then wraps up with the statement of the melody and a reprise of the stair-stepped rhythmic and harmonic entrances in both 4/4 time and finally 7/8 time and ends with a double-forte pedal F by the 4th player.
