Written by Evgeniya "Jane" Kozhevnikova in 2022 for NuQuintet, "Not Yet Have I Trod There" is a piece for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon. The piece was premiered by NuQuintet on December 4, 2022, at the Harn Museum, Gainesville, FL.
The piece was inspired by two works of art from an exhibition in the Harn Museum. The first work is One Hundred Poets Game Card by unknown Japanese artist. The poem captured on the card gave the title of the piece and reads:
Oe Mountain and
the road that goes to Ikuno
are far away, and so
not yet have I trod there, nor letter seen,
from Ama-no-Hashidate.
The second work is the Bronze Dress by Lesley Dill. This work captures the poem "This World Is Not Conclusion" by Emily Dickinson. Inspired by these two artworks and the poetry in it, the composer had in mind two keyword while writing this piece: "beyond" and "unseen."
Duration: ca. 6'
