Young performers play a conversation between the hands sharing themes of the two cyclic sections. The shifting melody alludes to the give-and-take of how friends spend time together. Like close friends that can finish each others sentences, the melody of the A section becomes further fragmented as it quickly passes between the hands.

Reflections is a fast paced elementary etude featuring mirrored fingering in a G five finger position. Sudden changes in direction and shifts between steps and intervallic leaps contribute to the challenges of this etude. For the adventurous, variations can be applied by altering to a minor hand position. Additionally, both major and minor hand positions could be transposed into the other eleven five finger positions.

Reflections

Like bugs crawling here and there across the ground, so will the intermediate pianist have their fingers moving playfully across the keys in an etude that teaches and reinforces chromatic scale fingering.

Military March is composed with melodic and harmonic thirds and fifths. The left hand performs exclusively harmonic fifths moving mostly by step while the right hand focuses on both intervals melodically. Six brief key changes moving through the major keys of D, C, Ab, F, A, Eb before returning to D will test the performers observance and understanding of key centers. Subdivision of sixteenths and eighth note triplet rhythms in the right hand combined with detailed articulations add a distinctive character to this moderate tempo march.

This new edition from Nouvelle Music Publishing of Jane Hergo's late elementary piano solo in G minor will have the pianist exploring octave shifts and crossing hands.

Scary Ditties is a continuation of the Piano Ditties series from NbG Music. The book celebrates the multiculturalism of the fall season and Halloween, in themed piano solos whose inspiration is drawn from around the world including Ireland, Scotland, Mexico, Latin America and the United States. Titles include "All Hallows Eve", "Dia de los Muertos, "Knock a Dolly", Pranks and Hijinks, "Ghost House", "Costume Party", Haunted Hayride", "Danse Macabre" and "Stingy Jack". The 19 page book is bound with a plastic coil binding so that the book lays open flat on the piano.

As star differs from star in brightness so does the the development of this exquisite elementary piano solo. The opening pentatonic phrase in the left hand five finger D position is answered by a slightly brighter D major five finger right hand phrase. Soon the stepping harmonic thirds in the right hand will move from D Major to a momentary brighter D Lydian mode reference. The middle section four-note pentatonic phrase moves from one five finger position to another in both hands as if a series of comets were following each other. The colorful combination of the four-note motif comes together in both hands at the interval of a major ninth as the two comets illuminate each other. A very short return to the opening phrases is followed by a brief coda that once again highlights the Lydian mode as the solo comes to an end.

Doable Ditties is the first in a series of supplemental piano literature from NbG Music for the elementary to late elementary student. The collection includes originals, patriotic songs, and folk tunes, themed for seasonal, holiday and religious settings in assorted styles, meters, tempos and key signatures. Noteworthy Elementary Solos will provide for the young performer a variety of expectations as they work through the collection . Shifting hand placements by octave, hand crossing, tempo changes within a solo, and moving from key signatures implied with accidentals to those with key signatures await the reader. Solos are primarily in C major with one in D minor and two in D Major. For the performer experienced in five finger position works without much hand movement, the collection will stretch them outside their comfort zone as they progress through the book. Titles include, Little Cat, Lost Quarter Blues, Hello Sunshine, Missy Moo, The Wind-Up Cow, Oops! Hit a Bump, Stargazing, My Day, Jiggity Jig, Big Dog Luke and A New Little Minuet. The minuet in D Major concludes the book and while on the surface may appear fairly simple, the piece contains a variety of melodic movement between the two hands including contrary, oblique and parallel motion among the voices. Sometimes the motion between voices are by step in one hand and a leap in the the other to further challenge the performer's reading skills.

Gems On The Lake

This is a sneaky sounding solo in F minor with an ABA form. A slightly faster tempo change takes place at the B section with a new theme.  With the shifting of clef signs, a momentary meter change from 4/4 to 2/4 then back again, and varied articulation in both hands will keep the early intermediate performer engaged throughout this surprising solo feature.

On the High Seas is a late intermediate piano solo for the left hand. Performers and listeners alike are transported to the high seas on a boat rocking 6/8 solo for left hand. What awaits the performer is multi-part writing, three against two rhythms, quick finger substitutions, and meter changes in this five page solo.

Piano Solo-Left Hand Alone

The folklike pentatonic theme in F major is announced over a two bar repetitive left-hand pattern in this charming solo. The middle section theme is contrasted with the dropping of the use of the sustain pedal, louder dynamics and a key centered around A minor. Much like A Zen Moment, also by Carrie Kraft, the repetitive patterns create a relaxing, contemplative mood in both the listener and performer.
