Christmas music is such a difficult genre to perform. Yes, I said it.
Doing the same 25 songs in different ways as a performer (after 30 years of
performance mind you) can get stale, to say the least. Do not get me wrong, I
still love working my bands during the Christmas season, that now starts in
October it seems. As an arranger, I love challenging myself with doing things
different, but staying true to these gorgeous, olde, traditional carols. This
one is on a list of ones I started playing/singing very young, while in
church. I have always loved its straight forward movement and harmonies. I
hope you feel I kept the original vibe, but through use of different tonal
colors and rhythms, made it more modern and interesting.
