Drawing on two early American hymn tunes, here is a beautifully written lyric piece that contrasts moments of calm reflection with soaring emotional high points. The opening uses the lesser-known Vermont composed by William Billings and follows it with a poignant adaption of the familiar hymn Nearer, My God, to Thee.
