The work consists of an alternation between thunderous whirlwind textures and more subdued and blurred sections with subtle shadings. "Opaque Shadows" was written for the Festival Chamber Orchestra, Cornell University. First performance on April 9, 2000, made possible by the Sidney T. Cox Fund for Contemporary Music.
