Over Jordan

Four American shape note folk songs and hymns are presented in this multi-movement work. Challenging but achievable vocal lines are paired with truly unique and masterful four-hand piano writing. The choral harmonies are mostly traditional, but the artistic piano part presents a whole new sonority for the traditional tunes. Movement 1 presents Wayfaring Stranger in a slower, lyrical style; Movement 2 is When I Can Read My Title Clear in an up-beat setting; Movement 3 gives us Let Me Go in a completely a cappella setting with traditional open harmonies; Movement 4 is a masterful finale with a wildly rhythmic, festival like setting of The Promised Land. This collection presents a great chance for your audience and singers to experience these well-loved songs in a completely new way.
