In 1889, Claude Debussy first heard the sound of Javanese Gamelan music at a
World Conference Exhibition in Paris. In 1903, Estampes ("Prints"), L. 100 was completed
and the first movement titled "Pagodes" was Debussy's piece drawing inspiration from
Gamelan music and the imagery of pagodas; the temples with small bases that rise with
ornate roofs.
In 1923, Andre Caplet orchestrated Debussy's piano work for symphony orchestra.
Now, a fully orchestrated adaption for wind band.
