"Pangrams" (2024) is a work for strings using my musical cryptography technique. It explores several English pangrams - sentences containing each letter of the English alphabet. The four brief movements are character studies - the opening, a slow nocturne or dirge; the second a sardonic scherzo; the third an aria; and the fourth, a tarantella-esque dance. While the pitch material is derived from the musical cryptogram, the other elements - form, orchestration, rhythm, character, etc. are left up to the creativity of the composer.
The violins are divided into four parts. There are solos for violin 1 and cello. This is accessible to college and professional-level orchestras.
