Passing the Buck is written in the blues style. It begins with a free style cadenza giving the performers an opportunity to be creative in their tempo and interpretation. At measure 5, the 2nd tuba has the bassline and it should be played in a driving manner. At measure 34, the performer is asked to improvise on the notes that are written. The piece is dedicated to three OUTSTANDING tuba players: my son Alex, and my colleagues Scott Landry and David McCormick.
