Passion Music after the Evangelist Matthew

This new edition of Bach's masterpiece reflects Mendelssohn's unique vision of the work and includes a forward in German and English. The work is now presented in its reduced form with the revised part for the Evangelist, clarinets replacing the oboe d'amore, and a suggestion for the missing continuo part. The vocal score, written in its original German text, includes double chorus, SATB soloists, and a piano reduction of the original orchestration. In an age in which Bach is performed almost exclusively by Baroque ensembles, this arrangement allows the opportunity to perform one of Bach's greatest works from a 19th-century perspective.
