Personifications was written originally as a small group ECM style piece. The title, although not a word that is pluralized in the English dictionary, comes from the notion that an entire piece of music should have a life of its own. Soloist will be the key to making the piece breathe. The adaptation for big band is intended to be a marriage between the contemporary big band writing movement and the "soulful jazz" movement or in other words, Maria Schneider meets Roy Hargrove. This piece utilizes WW doubles, and solo space for Flugelhorn and Soprano Sax.
