Peruvian Sunrise P.O.D.

Easily playable by most community, college, and professional orchestras, for over three decades PERUVIAN SUNRISE has consistently proved to be a beautiful and delightful audience pleaser! The 8-minute work consists of two themes alternating --- a languid tango-like melody --- and ancient folk song of the Peruvian Incas, "Viracocha." The score includes the traditional QUENA, (or Tenor Recorder), Tenor Saxophone, HARP, and small HANDBELL CHOIR (two players can cover the parts). Within the orchestra these folk sounds add a depth, resonance, and haunting mystery to the whole, evoking a sadness felt by the Peruvian people following the sixteenth century Conquesta by the Spanish Conquistadors. Since 1986 the piece has been performed/recorded more and more, in this country and abroad, for example by the Sinfonietta of Cosolargy International, the Carson City Symphony, The Foundation Orchestra, The Northern Concert Orchestra Association & Ruby Mountain Symphony, The Reno Pops Orchestra, plus ensembles small and large in the U.S., Europe, and especially Peru, where it is quite popular.
