Phantom Castle

Gespensterschloss. Movements for SS and SA recorders; includes 2 parts. "Whilst writing the piece I first had in mind the scene of a large, dark castle on a tranquil, starlit evening. From one of the high turrets the 'phantoms' appear, hovering slowly at first, but then swirling faster, eventually chasing each other around the courtyard in a spectral nocturnal frenzy. The music will, I hope, stimulate the imagination of the players to think of their own ghostly frolics. The designated techniques for sound (e.g. 'Luft und Klang') are suggestions only and intended to help the players to find their own palette of sounds to animate the ghosts and phantoms in this piece."--Graham Waterhouse. PHANTOM CASTLE had its debut at the 2002 Young Musicians Competition in Munich.
