This SATB with solo voice and piano work was written when friends of mine lost their son and daughter-in-law in a tragic accident. Often I’ve heard the Pie Jesu text set reflecting the somber nature of funerals, and rightly so. However, I wanted to compose a work that provides hope, reflecting what many believe, that life does not end here. Verse 1 represents baptism. Verse 2 represents our lives ups and downs. Verse 3 represents our final day, an important day like all others. In the scripture, being on a mountain represents that something very important is happening. In this text setting then, we are ending our earthly journey meeting the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit together (as they are) welcoming us to our final resting place.
