Neptune, The Mystic is the final movement in Gustave Holst's The Planets Suite. This movement is the most whimsical of them all and includes interesting techniques and educational opportunities. I made this arrangement for band to make it more accessible for high school and college bands alike!

Venus, the Bringer of Peace is the second movement in Gustave Holst's the
  Planets. A suite of music that includes a movement for most of the planets in
  our solar system. Its counterpart Mars, which is the first movement in the
  suite, is the bringer of war. Mars is a cacophonous movement, so Holst
  created Venus to be a moment of serenity for the audience before moving on.
  In Roman mythology, Venus is the goddess of prosperity. This movement is
  traditionally played by professional orchestras so I decided to make a
  version for band that was true to the original piece.

II Venus, the Bringer of Peace

Bim Bom is considered the first ever Bossa Nova Piece. Bossa Nova is defined as a relaxed style of samba with innovative syncopation and unconventional chords. The genre is credited with the modernization and popularity of Brazilian music. Bim Bom was composed by Joao Gilberto around 1956 and was released with his version of Chega de Saudade which names the album. It is said that Gilberto wrote the piece when sitting on the Sao Francisco River, watching laundresses balance loads of laundry on their heads. Inspired by the swaying and cadence of their steps, he tried to replicate the rhythm in the piece. The only lyrics in the piece that vary from "Bim-bom-bim" translate to "This is all of my song / And there's nothing more / My heart has asked that it be this way". Bossa Nova would come to be known for it's relaxed simplicity.

From Grainger's classic Lincolnshire Posy, Dublin Bay is the first
  movement of six. Evoking a dance-like feel as he describes the serenity of
  Ireland, helps listeners to picture the crashing waves of the Irish sea. This
  piece is a short and fun exploration of Irish folk music.

A beautiful and flowing piece about Harkstow Grange, a small cottage in
  the heart of Ireland. This piece varies on traditional Irish folk music in
  the second movement of Percy Grainger's Lincolnshire Posy.

After having a charming conversation with a friend about the lack of elementary and middle school repertoire, I decided to challenge myself to make a piece for the age group. This fugue is an educational piece that is intended to demonstrate the importance of each member of the band. It will help to teach students to listen across the band for other students and to count before their entrances. It can also be used to teach early music theory about one chords and five chords. It will also demonstrate the importance of balance, blend and tuning to students. I hope you enjoy this piece and find it useful as either a warmup or a concert piece!

Discovery is a dramatic and technically demanding solo piano work that takes the listener on a journey through uncharted musical landscapes. Dance of the Fireflies is a whimsical and educational etude designed to help developing pianists strengthen essential rhythmic and technical skills. Through a playful and evocative melody, the piece explores syncopation, hand independence, dynamic changes, and the interplay between duple and triple meter, offering students a musical setting in which to internalize complex rhythms with confidence. Like fireflies flickering across a summer night, the rhythms shift and dance, encouraging careful listening, coordination, and expressive interpretation.
