This work is inspired by a set of artworks by Thomas Moran and Richard
Friese. The first section of my work depicts the painting aHead of the
Yellowstone River.a by Thomas Moran. In this painting, Moran paints a work
in which the sun rises and shines a light on the beauty of the landscape. In
the Poem, Chose to have the Viola begins, and all the other instruments build
alongside the Viola, creating the effect of the sun rising. The piece then
switches characters. The work aTwo Fighting Moose Bullsa by Richard
Friese shows two Moose fighting for territory. In this next section, the work
begins violent and becomes more brilliant, depicting the battleas
intensity. The third section goes off to the two paintings created by Thomas
Moran, aThe Towers of Tower Fallsa and aGrand Canyon of the
Yellowstone.a This new section of the piece depicts the landscapesa
beauty and complexity while the meese are still fighting... The piece then
builds intensity again, returning to the battle between the Moose. After all
this intensity, the music returns to the beginning as a sunset and closure
for the day.
