Point Aconi is a through-composed ballad that owes a great deal of its inspiration from Thad's chart To You. The chart begins with a plaintive trumpet solo and gradually progresses into a full ensemble chorale. After exploring a number of treatments of the melody, the baritone saxophone is featured over a gradually building rhythm section that climaxes into an exuberant statement from the full ensemble. Alto sax 1 doubles on soprano sax, and trumpets double on flugelhorn. Top note for lead trumpet is a written high D, and top note for lead trombone is a written high Ab. 5-4-4, G.P,B,D.
