Composed in 1845, Clara Schumann's opus 16 contains three preludes and fugues for piano, in G minor, B-flat major, and D minor, respectively. Schumann was a great pianist and interpreter of Romantic piano literature, including the music of her husband Robert Schumann and longtime friend Johannes Brahms. This work, from a set of three keyboard works, is a well-crafted prelude and fugue from the Romantic period, obviously inspired by her love and study of Bach's music.
