Professor Wigstein's Amazing Melody Machine

The creative mind that gave you the One Bow Concerto and the End PIn Rag has done it again!  This fun piece depicts inventor Professor Wigstein's new machine that plays the world's most famous melodies.  After a pompous fanfare, four turns of a crank start the machine (your percussionist will need a rachet for this and also a desk clerk bell and crash cymbals for later!). It grinds and churns as it prepares to produce its first a melody, Ode to Joy. Soon the machine winds down, and the melody comes to a halt. Once again, the machine is cranked and begins another tune:  Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. As you can guess, something is bound to go wrong and during the third tune, Offenbach's Can-Can, fragments of all three melodies are heard  in clashing keys as the machine goes out of control, eventually exploding! A few hisses, and some dying moans are emitted. Then, Chopin's Funeral March is heard as the machine plays its own death knell. A final soft hiss marks its demise.  Hilariously entertaining!
