Quattuor, latin for the number four, is a three movement work for Saxophone Quartet written by David Dolatowski in Prescott Arizona (2023) The piece has both tonal and atonal aspects with it's own unique harmonies. All movements are highly rhythmic in nature with much syncopation. All players are given a good share of melodic material, and are treated equally.Movement I, marked Allegro, is based upon a motive, or theme which is developed throughout. Movement II begins with slow sustained harmonies in a homophonic texture, followed by counterpoint in a fugue-like section and ending with more sustained harmonies.
Movement III another Allegro movement is highly rhythmic, utilizing ostinato and syncopation.
