"Quelbe" is the unmistakable sound of the Virgin Islands. Its origins trace back to Africa and Europe fusing bamboula rhythms and chants, cariso songs and melodies with mazurka, polka and quadrille musical styles. "Quelbe!" is a medley of three popular Virgin Island folksongs. Four White Horses is a children's hand clapping game from the West Indies. Le Bega Carousel is a popular protest song proposing a boycott of a popular carousel owner who would not pay fair wages. Queen Mary (Mary Thomas) tells the story of a prominent social leader from the 1878 St Croix Contract Day uprising that demanded higher wages andbetter working conditions.
