This piece was written for the 7th Sunday of Easter, in lectionary cycle year 2 of the Revised Common Lectionary. This piece "Raised Up In Prayer" is almost a direct, word-for-word setting of most of the first chapter of the book of Acts, specifically Acts 1:6-26, recounting Jesus' appearance to the disciples after the resurrection, informing them that soon they would receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This piece is a beautiful unison setting of this text. Though possible to be performed simply as a solo song with piano, I have intended for the piece to be sung throughout by unison choir, giving a fuller more expressive sound. I endeavored to really create an effective, complete choral anthem, but explore the restriction of writing only for 1-part full choir.
