This chart is equally appropriate as an opener, closer, or anything in between. Solos are offered for trumpet 4, alto sax 2 and trombone 3, but the blues based changes allow the solo section to be opened up so that any player can be featured. After the solos there is an effective and exciting shout chorus. Throughout this solidly scored original there is tight ensemble and unison writing in the tradition of Thad Jones. Infectious rhythms such as triplet arpeggios give the lines momentum. And, as expected, there is a rousing finish as the band sounds two final chords. The lead part for saxophones is soprano. A powerhouse chart! Highly recommended!
