Remembrance is a short audience-friendly work for flute and piano in ternary form, and is ideal for use in worship services, weddings, or as a recital piece. An engaging first theme opens the work in the tonic of D major, and is followed by a brief piano passage which leads to the presentation of the expressive second theme in G major. Following an a piacere flourish for the flute and a cadence in G major, a piano interlude modulates to D minor and slows to usher in a return of the first theme in D major - restated in a highly ornamented fashion by both instruments. A short coda brings the work to a quiet and elegant conclusion. Commissioned by Michelle Mowery Johnson. Premiered by Shelley Binder and Fay Adams.
