Creatively combining the traditional English carol text with a 17th-century text by Thomas Pestel, this lovely original Christmas work evokes a calm sense of the mystery and wonder of the Nativity. The flowing piano accompaniment underscores the mood, then is removed for an optional a cappella second verse before resuming for the third, which builds with a beautiful double descant before resolving to a peaceful conclusion.
