Composed in 2005 for Solowerke fur Wettbewerb (Solo Pieces for Contests) in Austria, this rhapsody starts rather unconventionally with a cadenza that leads to a lyrical andante in the classic A-B-A format. Contrasting the lyrical opening, the fast ending section in rondo form puts the alto saxophone in the spotlight as virtuoso solo instrument. The essence of both parts are the sound and rhythmical expansion of the two interludes: an andante in 7/8 time and a minimal piece in the allegro, giving the work an extraordinary dimension that offers both musicians and audience a truly unique experience. Due to the great success of the version for concert band, an adaptation was made for fanfare band.
