A challenging arrangement of the iconic folksong. I preserve the melody unchanged, with full harmonies, often of an extended nature (ninths, elevenths, etc.). Each verse is in a minor key; after three verses, the music takes an unexpected turn in bar 57, becoming agitated and more dissonant, not referring at all to the tune. Two more verses follow, and a brief coda takes one to a quiet, sad ending.
