Samadhi for multi percussion solo invites the audience on a meditative process, culminating in the highest state of consciousness known as Samadhi. Drawing inspiration from the traditions of Hinduism and Buddhism, this composition explores the unification of mind and consciousness through the division of percussion instruments: metal instruments and wood/skin instruments.
The shimmering sounds of metal instruments transport the listener to a Buddhist temple, surrounded by the gentle chimes of bells and metallic materials. Meanwhile, the wood/skin instruments evoke the steady rhythm of the heartbeat, representing the observation of inner thought during meditation.
As the composition progresses, the meditative state is challenged by increasing intensity, reflecting the difficulty of maintaining concentration in the midst of external and internal distractions. Samadhi for multi percussion solo is an invitation to the audience to join in this transformative experience, and practice Samadhi together.
Samadhi for Multi Percussion Solo was commissioned by Wannapha Yannavut in 2023.
