Scrapple from the Apple

Want to teach your band about Charlie Parker and his music?  Here's a good place to start!  Play Bird's original recording and let your players dig in on this more accessible version arranged here for big band by Shane Porter.  The bebop style will begin to flow and this chart will be the learning path.  The head is first stated by a small combo of alto, tenor and trumpet followed by a saxophone section soli in unison on the melody.  Muted brass offers solid background figures during this section.  Solos are then in place for piano and guitar and a short brass soli ensues.  There's a written or improvised solo for lead alto before the small group returns and then the whole band takes it out.  This is a great chart for instruction and performance!
