Shuffle Stop

Middle school director, composer, and jazz trumpeter Mike Kamuf offers this medium-tempo blues set over a shuffle groove.  After a big, full ensemble opening, the chart moves into a statement of the infectious, yet simple melody.  A stop-time section begins a chorus of call and response between brass and saxes, providing an excellent opportunity for players to focus on time to keep the groove steady and in the pocket.  The solos are provided for alto and trumpet, but this one can be opened up to let several of your students solo over the blues!
