This piece was written for my youngest sister's final high school orchestra concert, and aims to convey to all of my siblings my love for them and how much I'll miss them when I move to Europe this summer. Despite the Spanish title, this piece does not focus on Latin musical themes (though the tumbao rhythm from Salsa music is implied throughout the piece). The piece begins with a somber introduction which then blossoms into beautiful and lucious jazz-informed chord movements to introduce the melody. The melody, which evokes sentiments of Folk music, is passed around the orchestra to solidify it within the audience's ear, after which the melody is then deconstructed and elaborated upon with new harmonies. A brittle moment when only a single violin is playing bridges the gap between the next section in which the piece modulates to enhance the melody's vibrance. The piece ends triumphantly as the orchestra outlines the II-V-I chord progression borrowed from jazz harmonic structure. As my youngest sister is a cellist, this piece focuses on providing the cellos with an especially fun and engaging part.
