This haunting piece exposes students to the sensitive elaboration of a melody in the Spanish tradition, while teaching skills of sustained legato bowing, tone production, to phrasing and dynamics, and position shifting for 1st violins (2nd violin, viola, cello and bass remain in 1st position throughout.) The composition was inspired by and is dedicated to the victims of war and conflict around the world, and expresses a hope for help and comfort for all of those affected.
