Snake River Stomp

The winner of the 2008 Texas Orchestra Directors Association composition contest!  This American tour de force has shades of Copland mixed with exciting fiddling motives and themes fit for a Hollywood western.  The composer describes it: "The Snake River flows through Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and I tried to capture some of its grandeur in the music.  The 'stomp' comes from the heavy hoedown feel in cut time. It's written in a rondo form, and its themes have a familiar style that is easy to capture.  Students will love the fact that each string part is interesting and unique."
