Snowshoes

Take a winter trek up a mountain over deep snow and a dense evergreen forest to a bright summit vista. In this musical poem, students encounter lyrical melodies, a variety of articulations, dynamic swells, and moments of alternating 3/4 and 4/4 meter. An expansive opening melody in upper strings is accompanied by the cello using a guitar-like pizzicato strum, leading to a fiddle-style solo for first violin. Optional percussion and harp (or piano) add an exciting cinematic feel to this snowy adventure.
