Program Notes:
For my final project in my freshman composition I class back in 2022, I was tasked with writing a rondo-style piece. Given that I also desired to expand the range of my compositional abilities, a Wind Quintet promptly ensued, and was titled Solstice Wonders given the time of year it was composed in the Winter of 2022. From its joyous holiday festivities to the dreariness of a gray January day, this work seeks to musically capture the feeling of wintertime, especially through the lens of the childhood experience. This piece was my first attempt at using many new techniques that differed from my typical string writing at the time, and thus was an important milestone in the diversification of my compositional abilities.
