If there is any part of the piano repertoire that has an air of sanctity, it is the sonatas of Beethoven. Thus, GateWay takes great care to preserve LVB's intentions, while giving the aspiring artist a clearer look at what problems, challenges and interpretive aspects are most important in all our Beethoven scores. Aside from two specific instances of octave displacement, these are all LVB's notes. We have indicated the range shifts and hand-crossing that permeates these pieces with a system that avoids clef changes, but places the music on the standard two-staves, stems up and down for R-L, and clear markings for each. Optional ways to perform particularly difficult passages, such as the glissando octaves in the 3rd mvt are presented as well. All three pieces are straight-through, with no turns back to the beginning for repeats. And, most importantly, the massive amount of ornamentation that is interspersed with the theme in the 3rd mvt, which is our audio sample here, is written out in full, so as to give a precise template for the place to begin one's technical and musical interpretation. 40 pages, coil-bound, 8.5 X 11.
