Written for violoncello and basso continuo. This fifth of six cello sonatas by Vivaldi appeared in print in Paris probably in 1740. It is presumed to be Vivaldi's Op. XIV, which is mentioned in contemporary documents several times, but otherwise unknown. A copy of this print was found in the collection of the dead French musicologist Henry Prunieres, one of the greatest experts on Vivaldi's period.
