Performance Notes
Sonatina for Trombone and Piano will require a skilled Trombonist and
Pianist. The
music should be played in a boldly aggressive style reminiscent of the
music of Paul
Hindemith. Thematically, the entire piece is based on the 6 notes in the
first measure of
the Trombone part. These 6 notes will be found throughout the piece in
various guises
such as inversion, retrograde, augmentation, diminution, and even a fugal
passage. The
dotted rhythms beginning at measure 125 are my tribute to the music of
Hindemith.
Thank you for choosing this composition. I hope you find it challenging and
rewarding.
