The American Civil War with all its horrors produced many wonderful songs and melodies. I've arranged four in this arrangement: two used by the North and two by the South. Dixie, however, was written by a Northerner but used by the South. The famous Battle Hymn of the Republic is a combination of an existing Union marching song, John Brown's Body, about the infamous John Brown and his pre-war fame and new lyrics from Julia Ward Howe. Each of the four songs is connected by a short military cadence to give the battery percussion some work.
