Sound the Battle Cry

Joyful, lively and reverent at the same time, this creative setting blends the rousing hymn Sound the Battle Cry with the Rondo from Mozart's Haffner Serenade. The arrangement starts out with the full string orchestra in a statement of the Mozart theme. Then the first violins burst forth with the first statement of Sound the Battle Cry while the Rondo is woven into the accompaniment. The second verse is given in pizzicato. Then comes another statement of the Rondo theme with an episode interwoven with the chorus. Back and forth the players complement each other in a smoothly-flowing dialogue, building in crescendo to the last, gladsome chords. Suitable for intermediate to advanced players.
