Spit-Fire was written in honor of the famed Tuskegee Airmen. This group of brave African-Americans overcame intense racial discrimination during World War II to train and fly with great distinction. Over the pulse of a military drum cadence, the work begins in a hymn-like manner. This gradually grows to a imposing statement as they prepare for battle. Sporadic percussion, boisterous brass and trombone glissandos represent the intense battle eventually roaring to a victorious finish. Highly recommended!
