Conceived as a delightfully startling combination of the old and the new, "Spring Riffs" is based on a French Renaissance Chanson by Claude LeJeune, Revecy Venir du Printans. The new work goes beyond being a simple arrangement, reprocessing the entire original piece (melodic lines, rhythms, text, form, voicing, etc.) through an eclectic 21st century lens that embraces both the rigors of art music and the flair of pop music. It may be performed a cappella with hand percussion, or basso continuo instruments (traditional or non-traditional) may be added.
