An updated version of this famous classic! The main melody still has the exciting alternating march cadence and swing feel that audiences love and expect. After the head there is an open solo section. The pianist is the last soloist and continues soloing into a tutti ensemble section, but plays the original alto solo which is written in octaves. The written alto solo is optional for the pianist, but the piano solo is not. The chart continues with an exciting shout chorus. This iconic tune is just as much a crowd-pleaser today as when it was first performed. Soloists: Piano, 2nd Trumpet, Tenor Saxophone, and an optional Drum solo. These are the written solos, but since it is a blues, there is an option to open it up to everyone in the group. The trumpet highest written note is C#5 (two octaves above middle C).
